The swimming pool in Dalvík offers relaxation for people of all ages and is very popular among tourists, who enjoy relaxing and sunbathing there in the summertime and experience the Northern lights (Arora Borealis) from the hot tubs during the winter time. The museum´s collection comprises thousands of items, most of them contributed by local people in Dalvík, Svarfaðardalur and Árskógsströnd. They include various tools and furnishing that provide an insight into life and work around Dalvík and the history of the community, in addition to items of art and craft made by local people. The natural history collection contains a large number of Icelandic birds and mammals, including a polar bear. The museum includes exhibits on a number of people from Svarfaðardalur who became nationally famous; Jóhann Pétursson known as ,,the Gigant" and the Icelandic president Dr. Kristján Eldjárn.

The public library is located in the culural house Berg and is open every day. Everyone is welcome to enjoy the facilities. With a library card you have access of a diverse collection og books suitable for everybody, adults and children, as well as educational and children´s materials on dvd. If you don´t have a library card you are, of course, welcome to visit us and enjoy our collection of books on site. Internet connections are available. When travelling in Dalvík, the library is a nice and quiet place to go to. You can stop by for a cup of coffee, scan the newspapers and enjoy the view.

Mt. Böggvisstaðafjall offers one of Iceland´s best skiing areas, with slopes for all levels of ability and experience. Two ski-lifts transport skiers from the edge of the town up to a height of 320 m. where they can choose between ski and snowboard slopes, or less demanding routes which command splendid views over the fjord. Those interested in telemarking or cross-country skiing should also find available paths. The skiing resort has a cabin with sleeping bag accomodation for 40 people and 3 bedrooms with beds for seven people. In addition guests have access to a fully equipped kitcen. One can also by refreshments at the cabin during opening hours.

The Arnarholt golf course is a nin-hole course, seven km. outside of Dalvík at Arnarholt in Svarfaðardalur. Legend says that the original 9th centurey settlers of the vally are buried here and archaeologists have excavated early medieval remains that support this. The golf course is located in spectacular natural enviroment and is popular with both local residents and visitors. It is possible to rent golf clubs, carts and exercise balls. The restaurant is open from 13:00-21:00 during the summer.

Horseback riding is a very popular leisure pursuit in Dalvíkurbyggð. At Hringsholt is the largest stable in Iceland where horces can be hired for short rides or longer expedition, together with guides. Adjacent to the stable is a racetrack and other facilities of the Hringur equestrian club.

Whale-watching cruises are available from Dalvík and Hauganes during the summer months. The boats rarely have to go far out into Eyjafjörður before whales and other cetaceans make their apperance; humpback, minke and killer whales, along with dolphins and porpoises, are most likely to be spotted. Midnight Sun cruises during spring and summar, when the sun does not set for some weeks, are always popular with visitors. Sea angling is a popular pursuit; whale watching vessels and other boats offer angling expeditions. Eyjafjorður is famed for it´s haddock and cod stocks, and sea angling contests are often held here.

The Svarfaðardalsá river is famed for its trouts and the beauty of the surroundings adds to the pleasure of angling. The river comprises five angling zones, with two rods normally permitted in each zone. Angling permits are sold by the association of landowners in the vally. www.stak.is

Arctic Heli Skiing is operated by Bergmenn Mountain Guides on the Troll Peninsula in Northern Iceland. The firm Artex specialises in paintball and laser-tag pursuits. These games are great fun for groups. Paint ball: Is for people 18 years and older. Young people of 15-18 years old need their parent´s written permission to play. The paintball grounds are situated in the Krossar farm in Árskógsströnd, about 35 km from Akureyri and 10 km from Dalvík. There we have 15 Tippmann markers and we can also offer paintball games using bows. Laser tag: Is suitable for the whole family. The laser-tag grounds are in the woods of Brúarhvammsreitur. We have around 40 guns which we can set according to the wishes of individual players each time. This is completely harmless an not at all painful.
